Devotional: Cutting the rope

Scripture: Romans 7:6

In Roman’s Paul talks about an old roman punishment: Tying a dead person to an alive person.  Sometimes in life there are just some things that if there are attached to use will kill us. They are like dead bodies to us. It’s really hard but my challenge to you is to ask God to show you what needs to be cut. We aren’t prisoners. We aren’t guilty. We don’t need to be punished. Let the dead bodies go. If you don’t have to drag around that dead body, just image how much farther you can go. You don’t have this thing weighing you down. You won’t get tired or sore as fast. You will actually have more energy and stamina because you aren’t carrying around this dead thing. Things that could be weighing you down and killing you could be a certain person, money, an issue like control or manipulation, bad habits. Sometimes it’s hard to see what’s right in front of us, but if we will start to see what’s right in front of us and deal with it we will gain so much freedom.

Lord, just soften our hearts. Holy Spirit just come comfort us. Lord show me the things that are in my life that I need to cut away because if I don’t death will come. Open my eyes to see reality, your reality. I am so thankful for your wisdom and I’m so thankful to have you. Jesus you are so good and so worthy and so true. Holy Spirit I just take your hand as I choose to the cut rope and let the dead things fall.
In Jesus’s name, AMEN!
